How good is your memory?

By titia.maas@web.de

Sometimes you will never know the value of something, until it becomes a memory

The Flow weekly from week 10 contains a little memory list to complete. I truly enjoyed jotting down my answers.

  1. Finest Youth memory

Getting my hair, all messed up while driving across the beach with my dad in his old army jeep.

  1. Loveliest book to date

That’s a hard question, I read so many lovely books. As my mind was in my childhood, I decided for: The Brothers Lionheart. An amazing children’s fantasy novel written by Astrid Lindgren that shows many facets and shades of reality. As per Wikipedia: “Many of its themes are unusually dark and heavy for the children’s book genre. Disease, death, tyranny, betrayal and rebellion are some of the dark themes that permeate the story. The lighter themes of the book involve platonic love, loyalty, hope, courage and pacifism.”

  1. Best cake I ever ate

A chocolate-almond cake with still-fluid chocolate inside – a recipe from a German celebrity chef: Holger Stromberg. At the age of 23 in 1994, he gained his first Michelin star whilst head chef at the restaurant Goldschmieding in Castrop-Rauxel, making him Germany’s youngest Michelin starred chef. He did not bake me one though :-) I did myself with my Thermomix also called the world’s smallest, smartest kitchen.

  1. A movie that I will always remember

Ciske de Rat  One of the first movies I watched in the cinema when I was about ten years old. I believe I cried for an entire week.  The movie is about a very lonely 11-year-old boy that everyone calls “The rat”. It is a very sad but also beautiful story and shows what people are capable off and how badly everyone needs someone that believes in them.

  1. Nicest city I visited

Another tough one as every city has its charm. An impulse led me write down Cologne. It is right around the corner from where we live now. For about ten years, I lived in Cologne in a 44 square meter apartment together with my husband. (~470 square foot) It is a fantastic city.

  1. Most exciting thing I ever did

Crossing the street in Hyderabad all by myself. I have done quite a few exciting things but just crossing the street was huge. With 6.8 million inhabitants, Hyderabad is the 4th most populous city in India. It is the only one of that four without underground traffic. So everyone is on the road. And I mean everyone. Check out this video on YouTube, and you will know what I mean.

  1. A walk/stroll I would like to repeat

Walking in Scotland was great yet the one that sticks in my mind most is a walk along the Rhine in Cologne. It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon and me and one of my best friends – her name is Vicky – strolled along the Rhine and ended up listening to an outdoor piano player, who actually managed to locate his grand piano right next to the Rhine.

If have seen many street artists, but this is something I had never seen. A grand piano player all by himself at the water. No concert – no entry fees, just a street artist with a huge instrument.

  1. The sweetest people I know

Foremost my mother, my entire family, my sister in law, my girlfriends, my neighbors, my yoga teacher, my colleagues, … I could go on and on. I am very grateful for having so many sweet people around me.

What are your answers? You don’t necessarily need to write them down, but perhaps take a moment to think about them and see what it is that you recollect.
