The single most important gift you can give your children

The single most important gift you can give your children

Today my daughter is celebrating her 9th Birthday. Already a while ago people started to ask me what they could get her as a present. Not an easy question as already a few years ago Maja started to realize she has everything her heart desires.

She is as we say in German “wunschlos glücklich”. There is no such word in English. It translates to “perfectly happy”. A “Wunsch” is a desire. Something you would like to get. And “los” stands for without. She is happy and content without any further wishes.

In other words, she has absolutely no clue what we could get her.

A while back I read a great article from Joshua Becker. It starts off with a wonderful quote from Kahlil Gibran “You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.”

The article describes 35 gifts you can give your children that cost no money. It is beautifully written. If I sum up those gifts, I come to one single gift that it all comes down to:

As a parent, the single most important gift you can give your children is making them feel embraced.

Wholeheartedly embraced. Making them feel they belong. They are worthy. They are loved. Giving them room and support to grow.

If we are able to do that, then they will be in a good place to do the same.

And it will make all the difference.

Maja
Happy Birthday Maja! I am extremely proud and grateful to have such a beautiful daughter.

School Birthday Treat

She really enjoyed creating her School Birthday Treats.
Giving is more fun than receiving :-)
