Sometimes a 3-minute workout is all we need

By titia.maas@web.de

The only bad workout is the one you didn't do

Do you think a daily 18-minute workout will help me become a better writer? It’s surely a very effective way to free up the brain. Therefore, it’s a bonus assignment of my current JPM writing class.

I haven’t deserved my bonus yet. I workout at the gym 2-3 hours a week but the other days I am rather stuck behind my PC. And when I say stuck, I really mean stuck.  I easily top 10 hours a day, working, writing, browsing the internet.

Not good for the eyes, not good for the spine, and not good for the brain either. I need to kick myself in the butt. Adding new daily habits can be tricky. So I decided to lower the bar a little. The past few days, I started doing a 3-minute workout.

Here is how that goes:

I put up a loud and energetic song and let it all out. I dance like an idiot in the middle of my office. Swinging my hips and my arms like a maniac. Not caring just a tiny bit that the neighbours might be able to see me through my garden window. On top of it, I sing along – even though I cannot sing at all.

After one song – just 3 minutes – I feel reborn. My heart beats like crazy, my body feels loose, my head is in the clouds. I am ready to attack the rest of the day.

This 3-minute workout is all I need. If I did two rounds in one go, I would need to take a shower. One song is the perfect doses. I could do six daily rounds and get to 18 minutes, but sometimes less is more. Here I just might go minimalistic.

Want to know what makes me rock? My current top 5:

  • Crazy all my life – Daniel Porter
  • Alors on dance – Stromae
  • I Got You – James Brown
  • Sexy and I know it – LMFAO
  • Jump (For my love) – Girls Aloud

What is your favorite workout song?

How do you free up your mind?

Great song picks (and workout strategy)! There’s nothing I like better than rocking out to loud music in the living room!
